Today, we are facing the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time. 68.5 million people are displaced worldwide, over 30 million of whom are children. And yet less than 3 percent of all humanitarian funding goes to education—and only fraction of that to early childhood development (ECD)— despite all we know about the proven benefits of investing in a child’s earliest years. This World Refugee Day, Sesame Workshop is highlighting the need to invest in critical early learning for the world’s youngest refugees. With historic support from both the MacArthur
Foundation and LEGO Foundation, we’re bringing early learning to millions of children affected by the Syrian and Rohingya refugee crises in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, BRAC, and our independent research evaluator, NYU Global TIES for Children. Together, we are delivering educational resources, play-based learning, and a sense of hope to the children and caregivers who need it most. We hope you will join us on Thursday, June 20th as we highlight the critical need for investing in early education in crisis settings and the promise of ECD programs to bring hope and joy to children affected by conflict.
